Guy Robinson

Guy’s passion for learning, kinship with locksmiths, and awareness of the talent shortage were all drivers behind establishing the new ASSA ABLOY Locksmith Academy. His own continuous education comes from teaching alongside the most knowledgeable instructors in the industry, staying current on innovations, and earning a master’s in communication to help him hone his instructional and adult learning techniques.

“Teaching adults requires a different approach,” he explains. “You can’t cram 40+ years of locksmithing into a few days of training and expect it to stick. That’s why our apprentice section alone requires ten straight days to absorb the fundamentals, which we break down into digestible bites and hands-on sessions.”

That meant streamlining the amount of information delivered in any one day, using more repetition, and cutting class time to five or six hours. This helps hold an adult’s attention longer and lets the information sink in for better retention.

Phil Agius

I started to work full-time in the business in 1992 at the age of 22 when my father Frank was getting ready to retire. We still run a full-service locksmith shop and eventually I learned the hollow metal/commercial door business. I am the lone family member still involved in the business currently. I have been involved heavily in new product development, worked with the family of Liam Gribben when we acquired Blue Dog Keys in 2017, and continue to work in the locksmith shop primarily focusing on contract hardware projects. In 2000 we began working with Gale Johnson on our Genericode program, eventually buying him out about five years ago. I help with tech support of Gcode, new codes, keys, and anything else that we can put in the program.
