Locksmith Training
Doyle University was founded in 1984 as a space for security industry professionals from around the country to gather and continue their education. We invite professional local and national trainers to our state-of-the-art training facility located in North Minneapolis. Training classes are scheduled throughout the year and range in topics from new product installation techniques to new technology education.
Most of our classes are offered at no cost to our customers and some include training credits and certifications. Class sizes vary and registration is required to attend. Please see the current list of offered classes below.

Sargent Master
Keying Workshop
Instructor: Guy Robinson
Course Description:
- After an overview of The BHMA Blind-Code for labelling keys, and SARGENT cylinders, we’ll teach you how to pin a variety of cylinder types: conventional and LFIC, High-Security-Conventional and LFIC.
- You will understand the differences in single versus double step systems; and analyze maximum adjacent cuts to remove violations from a key system.
- This course is designed for locksmiths, end-users, and facilities maintenance personnel.

Basic Hardware 101

Course Description:
- New to the door and hardware industry? Get started here!
- Learn the fundamentals for selecting hardware for commercial doors, including an overview of various types of hinges, locks, exit devices, door controls and protection for the opening.
- We’ll cover ANSI (American National Standards Institute) and BHMA (Builder Hardware Manufacturer’s Association) standards, DHI’s (Door Hardware Institute) sequence for door hardware detailing and installation, basic code requirements, and best practices for hardware selection.
- This course is a basic introductory course for anyone new to the door and hardware industry

Door Controls Workshop

Course Description:
- Explore door closers, how they operate, and how to install them!
- We’ll discuss the purpose and operation of door closers, manufacturers, and products. Then practice hands-on installation, adjustment, and mounting methods. You will also learn how to specify and order door controls.
- This course is designed for anyone who distributes or sells door closers, or anyone interested in learning about door security.

Adams Rite: Mechanical to Electrical
Instructor: Guy Robinson
Course Description:
- In Upgrading from Mechanical to Electrified Hardware, you’ll take an in-depth look at what you need to know about an opening in order to select the right electrified hardware option(s) to work with or replace the most common mechanical door hardware. During the training session, we’ll review key site survey fundamentals when selecting electrified hardware, like existing hardware, the door’s function, the opening’s surroundings, and codes.
- Upon completion of this course, you should be able to: identify common mechanical door hardware, recognize the most used electrified hardware products (not inclusive of aluminum storefront hardware), review fundamental site survey considerations (e.g. existing hardware, function, surroundings, and codes) and discuss basic egress codes relating to electrified openings.
